Info Gathering=Overwhelming

I am starting "Project Photo"! I am totally overwhelmed. Where do I start?

Here is what I have already done:

-Researched scanners. (Well, before researching scanners I went to stores to see how much they charge to convert negatives into digitals. For the quantity I am doing, it would be A LOT cheaper to buy a scanner and do it myself.) Back to the researching scanners...I wanted a scanner to scan all of my film negatives. I found one that is reasonably priced for the quality it provides. I bought it on Ebay. (Which was my first ebay purchase ever!) I'll tell you more about the scanner once I open it. :)

-I have researched picture books, albums, printing options, etc. I have a few websites that are looking favorable. (I'll tell you more about those too.)

-Tried to find cheap Photo Shop classes. I've been unsuccessful at this so far. I went to Inkley's today to see if they offer Photo Shop classes. Nope. I'll keep looking. This is the overwhelming part to me. Do I start scanning pictures before I buy and understand the Photo Shop software? I've read that Photo Shop is a great way to organize photos. I want to learn how to use the "tag" function. Right now the main questions is, do I start scanning pictures now (it takes a long time I'm told), and put them on cds -OR- do wait to scan so I can put them directly in Photo Shop (which I'm not even sure I'm buying)?

Today's task: open the scanner and become oriented with it.

I know that the U offers classes in Photoshop through their 'Lifelong Learning' program. Try this link: http://continue.utah.edu/lifelong/results.php

If the link doesn't work, try: www.continue.utah.edu. On the main page search 'photoshop.'

It is refreshing to look at a blog that isn't about the same stuff...don't get me wrong, I'm like you I like them all...but still it is refreshing!
